Flashback: 1 year ago today

18 months old today

For Dylan's half birthday, I got him dressed up and took him out for mexican food. He got to watch the buses and trucks pass by while we waited for the bus to take us to Union Square, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He had chips and salsa as an appetizer, and he's gotten really good at dipping the chips and didn't seem to mind how spicy it was. (He must be my son.) He had some refried beans (his favorite) and some of the carne from my enchilada for dinner and then chewed on a straw while I ate my food.

When we left the restaurant, I decided to let him run around the square for a little bit because he'd been sitting for so long. He was so happy to be outside and mobile that I thought it would be a good idea to just walk home. He walked the equivalent of 4 (New York) city blocks before we got to a big hill and I put him in the stroller. That's a lot of walking for a 31" tall little boy! He was asleep by the time we got to the top of the hill.

When we got home, Dylan woke up and we ate a beautiful pear I bought on the way home. He had 3/4 and I ate the rest. It was the perfect end to his half birthday.

Chopsticks

I got sushi for lunch on Friday and even though Dylan wanted no part of the actual sushi, the moment he saw the chopsticks he had to have them. I obliged and he promptly used them to eat his hummus. Of course.

Notice the piece of spaghetti on the wall. That was from Thursday's dinner.

That's as close as he got to the sushi. He must be Michael's son... Maybe by his second birthday he'll be a fan.

Translation: "Last time I was here there was a biiiiiiiiig hawk that swooped down from the sky and ate a mouse. It was something."

CDs

Mike is busy putting our CD collection back into itunes (his ipod needed to be restored), and so the CDs in the queue now live in the office. Dylan has been banished from the room until the project is done, and this is why:

Uh-oh... Daddy's gonna be mad. But is there anything cuter than a toddler in Thomas the Tank Engine jammies and Elmo slippers making a mess? I submit that there is not.

Giant dinosaur

"Grandma, hold on a sec. Bergeron is taking the puck down the ice..."
"He didn't score..." That's okay, my little giant dinosaur, the Bruins still won the game.

Multitasking

Dylan loves his froggy potty. He doesn't quite get that he's supposed to sit on it without any pants on, but he does find it a comfortable spot to sit and brush his teeth.
We're testing out a lovely blue for the bathroom. I think it goes very well with our son.

Donut

Yup. That's Dylan eating a donut in his pajamas on a couch in a hotel in New Jersey.

Dylan has no fear of the dance floor. Check him out weaving in and out of the footsteps of people who have no idea he's there... And the dancers at the end are a nice touch (if I do say so myself.)
